If you are always in front of a computer, you might not feel the need for an electronic dictionary.
There are plethora of web dictionaries like Google dictionary or Wiktionary that you don’t need to spend money to buy one.
If you are in a classroom or in a library where you don’t have an access to the Internet, you might need a paper or an electronic dictionary.
If you are serious about learning a new language, it might be the best to buy an electronic dictionary.
However, if you occasionally enjoy reading foreign language books and look up a couple words at times, electronic dictionary can be a bit too pricy.
Now having said all that I want to introduce DIXAU.
DIXAU is an electronic dictionary.
But it is a new kind of an electronic dictionary.
DIXAU does not have a LCD screen, a keypad, or a dictionary.
It only contains a clickable button, a translucent guide, and a camera.
Can you really call this a dictionary?

Look up definitions with just a click.
Unlike other electronic dictionaries users don’t have to type the word they want to search.  All you have to do is to point the word with DIXAU and click.  It automatically looks up the definition in a web dictionary.  This is how DIXAU is different from other electronic dictionaries.
It recognizes words using an attached camera.
If you place the guide parallel to the word you want to look up and click, DIXAU takes a picture of the word.
The image goes through the DIXAU program and comes out as a word that computer recognizes.  Then DIXAU sends the result to a web dictionary, which in turn shows a definition of the word.
Although it does not have its own dictionaries, DIXAU makes a good use of free web dictionaries.
It connects with up to 140 dictionaries including Google dictionary and Wiktionary.

When using DIXAU the user only has to point and click.  DIXAU takes care of the rest.

DIXAU’s strengths come from the fact that it uses free Web services and that it allows users to look up any words with a click. The use of free web services can be a limiting factor as well.  If you don’t have a PC that’s connected to the internet, DIXAU is useless.
If you use it with a laptop, you can use it outside.  But few people will do that.
The target customers are people who need to read lots of foreign books or documents at home or at work.
Even this group of people might think twice about it.

DIXAU’s Values.
Any peripherals using an OCR technology are usable when the accuracy is close to 100%.
Even if the accuracy is 99% because of the other 1% lots of problems can happen.

img_expertreview04.jpgAlthough DIXAU does not sport 100% accuracy (which is impossible by the way), it didn’t disrupt my reading flow when reading an English book. 대부분 흰색 바탕에
Usually documents are printed on white pages using black ink, accuracy is not much of a factor in a real life usage.
There is a huge difference between typing every word you don’t know versus just pointing and clicking on them.
The real value of DIXAU can be found in this.
If you spend money to buy this product you know and experienced annoyances that you feel while reading foreign documents.
If you don’t, I don’t think there is a reason to buy DIXAU.  You can just type it yourself or buy a more expensive electronic dictionary.
